Bren Sparling

 I am a Chapel Hill, NC based artist, best known for my colorful watercolor paintings of animals on canvas.  My art has been described as “fresh, and colorful” with an “ability to capture the personalities of her subjects”. 

I spent 25 years of my professional career as a Pediatric Intensive Care nurse.  Having a creative outlet provided balance.  This creativity has taken many forms and a variety of mediums including acrylic painted murals, collage, pen and ink drawings, book illustration and more recently, watercolor.

 I’m absolutely in love with watercolor, addicted to the watermarks, those “ happy accidents” that create texture in my paintings.  Animals are my favorite subjects to paint.   I focus on the eyes to try and capture the soul and personality of my subjects, using surprising color combinations and gestural lines to create my custom pet portraits and original paintings on canvas. Although I am no longer a nurse at the bedside, my art has allowed me to continue caring for my patients and their families through charitable donations.
